Drunk driving statistics point to an increasing problem with drunk driving.
One study that MADD found is that each day, 28 people die from a crash
related to drunk driving. Another study discovered that the car accidents
are one of the top causes of death for teenagers, and this is especially
true when underage drinking and driving is involved.
The Law Offices of Jarrod M. Wilfert, not only are we committed to providing fierce and aggressive defense
to those who have been accused of drunk driving, but we also want to help
prevent the issue from happening. The courtroom can be an intimidating
place, especially if you have never been accused of
another criminal offense.
What can we do to prevent a drunk driving accident? If you know that alcohol
will be involved on your night out, underestimate the importance of having
a designated driver. Whether you are the one who has volunteered, or you
are being a good sport and “taking one for the team,” you
must make sure that your designated driver feels included—not excluded—from
the evening’s activities.
Here are some of our safety tips for your night out:
- Have a game plan set. If you know that you or your friends will be drinking,
make a plan to make sure that you do have a designated driver.
- Your designated driver should be reliable, someone you can count on, and
you know will not back out on their promise.
- Will you be the designated driver for the evening? Don’t go back
on your agreement.
You might suggest to your group of friends to take turns as the designated
driver (DD) for that weekend or that event. If that doesn’t work
for your group, consider hailing a taxi, use a rideshare service such
as Uber or Lyft, or even hire a professional designated driver service,
as another option.
Remember that law enforcement is especially vigilant around night clubs,
bars, and restaurants, knowing that there is a high likelihood that someone
will attempt to drink and drive. Do not put yourself in this situation!
